Shell cordovan is a type of leather that comes from horses and specifically from their rump. As horse’s rump has a lot of muscle and basically this makes the leather pretty though. We use this skin and process it to make Shell cordovan.

Why is Shell Cordovan so expensive?

Usually shell cordovan boots ranges from $700 to +$1000 depending on the brand. Short answer is, there isn’t enough supply of it, but the demand is high.

It’s very expensive to keep horses compared to calf or other types of domestic animals and you can only get this leather from their rump, so there isn’t a lot of it.

Meermin has released heritage shell cordovan leather somewhere back in 2021. They don’t like to disclose where it’s from but they say it’s somewhere from the Americas. Generally, people’s impression is that the leather is not as perfect as other shell cordovan types from other tanneries. But others would say, if you are going to wear them and it’ll be scuffed anyway, it wouldn’t matter for some minor imperfections.

Today, I will show you three Shell Cordovans that you can buy under $400.There are two colours of Burgundy and Black.

These Meermin boots are made of their newest Negon last and has flex goodyear welted outsoles for your confort.
